Siena
Ok, back on the blog! Wifi has been very spotty on our travels this summer, but I have also been more exhausted than I had anticipated each night, and as soon as I hit the pillow I am fast asleep.
This morning after breakfast, Chloe headed down to the pool to read and take a dip but I decided to skip the pool and stay inside with the AC for a while. We have been getting a lot of sun and I just needed a little break. With that said, I was outside looking like a maniac for about 45 minutes working on my knee rehabilitation. There is a giant hill that leads down to the street where we can take the bus into the city center. This hill is great for my prescribed exercises and helps me burn off the kilos of cured meats I've been eating.
Yesterday we had a nice, busy day. We took the bus from our hotel into the city center, walked around, visited the shops, tasted all the nice free samples, went to a museum and drank about ten gallons of water in an effort to try to counter the heavy Tuscan sun. Siena is a stunning city with beautifully crafted brick buildings. The streets move with you as you stroll through them, based on the changing shadows from the sun and the soft curves of the building faces that line the streets. As night falls on the city, the light oranges and pinks of the buildings come alive, offering an inviting glow that soften the late afternoon's strong heat, welcoming you to dinner and a drink.
Chloe and I were in the city from about 12-5, then came back to the hotel for a dip in the pool, showered, dressed for dinner, then took the bus back into the city for a nice dinner. Siena is known for their pasta (duh) and their meats, so we had to try them. The wine wasn't bad either :)
We ate inside because they had AC and it was 99 degrees. That is not an inflated number, it was actually 99 degrees at 9pm.
Siena is known for it's Gothic art. A lot of paintings of the first king of Italy, and Jesus. Go figure.

Ah, a dip in the pool after a long hot day :)
